It's Just A Game

By: Jonathan Seidel

Taking life too seriously, it is just a game with too much emotion (Cioran, trouble, 11)

A pickup basketball game is all fun and games but some people try too hard. Some people add their emotional integrity to the game. Chill out and enjoy the game. Life is met with too much emotion. Mellow out and relax. Everyone grabbing for something to boost their own satisfaction. Life is game don’t get too caught up in reckless ties.

The classic polemic against nihilism attempts to salvage the dying order with immense worth. It is through self actualisation that life becomes meaningful. Whether through introspection or through connectivity to others. The stare of nihilism is narcissistic, hedonistic and downright amoral. When life is meaningless everything is open. Yet it is the exact opposite. Nihilism is a recognition of the faultiness of the universe. It is the horrifying revelation of the matrix. Stuck in a simulation filled with fated encounters and awful consequences. To preoccupy with aesthetics is to distract from the true nature of the universe. It is too immerse in the external to void the internal dilemma. Hedonism is not the nephew of nihilism but the rival family. Nihilism hits the truth on the head. What one wishes to do with this taboo information is up to them. One may indulge in hedonistic nonsense to accelerate testosterone and escape the devilish knowledge or ponder the extremities of the doomsday device. Optimism and meaning are ways to undermine the truth. Constructed mannerisms to stay afloat in a world of unavoidable torture.

Longing for connection and yearning for wealth are aspects of man’s unique latent desire for egoistic expression. His higher intelligence sees desire as a coping strategy for the futility of existence. The more money the more friends the more fulfilled. None of this is ever true. Control of assets is control over existence. Yet this is never legitimate and never lasts. No matter, fate will come and bite you in the ass. Medical issues, economic issues. Any unforeseen consequences can ruin the expectation. The sorrow that follows that loss is unexplained venting. Pondering how and why it occurred. It wasn’t supposed to happen. They are preparations in play. Safety nets to salvage the sinking ship. The safeguards fell through and there was no saving the project. Control was stolen and travesty followed. Holding onto the grief figuring if there was another way. There never was. Fate will come for you and there is no stopping it. Everyone is destined to suffer in one way or another. Might as well accept the devil’s deal and confront it head on. Accept destiny and endure the heat. A clock ticking till it is one’s time to feel the grandeur of frightening terror.

Desire is an intellectual response away from nihilism. Desiring something would seemingly undercut the meaninglessness of existence. To actively acquire wealth and adornments is to recognise some worth. There is a refracted rationale. To argue hedonism since there is no objective moral code nor a deity commanding asceticism is not the same as absent meaning. Absent meaning would tend to isolate and avoid the hedonistic route. While a nihilist could claim the lack of meaning allows autonomy for the individual to entertain their own meaning namely hedonistic pursuits whether that be drugs or relationships. In this regard there are two varying definitions: one with zero absolutes with personal meaning and one without meaning. The latter may be better defined in the context of absurdism. Desire is the quest for meaning. Absent desire is the dissatisfaction and contentment with the world. This may lead to suicide or endurance. Absent meaning doesn’t mean that life isn’t worth living simply that there is no desire along the lines of resilience of wishful thinking. Though to be without desire is extreme and seemingly vegetative. Nirvana is a wanderer with no attachments just bliss.

Valueless existence is fluid and the flow of nature. The wrongheaded way of the world is the human attempt to control it. To subjugate nature to its whims. The darwinian scheme is harsh but it is natural. Human comprehension only darkens its reality. The cycle of life isn’t to be trifled with, it is to be accepted. The Leviathan is away from the chaotic jungle. A safe haven away from the truth of nature. The cruelty yet the destiny of existence. Though Hobbesian chaos fits quite well with the enlightened mantra of anthropocentric establishment. The intellect is man’s way out of the chaos but simultaneously creates his own horror show. The Leviathan is the age of intellectual maturity, east of innocent Eden. Humans leaving the jungle for cities may be agriculturally comforting but it is existentially drowning. The value of the mind cannot be diminished easily. It has been turned on and cannot be turned off. The mind controls the body without soulful intent. Draining the bodily energy forcefully. The gift of development is a curse gnawing away at sanity. Destroying the innocence, creating the nihilistic agenda. Trauma only brews distaste and depression. Hallowed out by the internal breakdown momentarily salvaged by distracting stimuli. Leaving the jungle, Tarzan finally sees the truth, he learns the struggle and loses his innocence. A terrible world is beholden to his introspective arena. He cannot escape the mental anguish he has opened his door to.

Expectations are linked to the desired outcome. When they are thrown in disarray emotional stress builds. Monks and mystics excel at muting out desire because they detach from society. Away from the luxury and advertisements on billboards. There is no heinous urge in the stillness of nature. The mystic returns to nature and meditates on his self. He shuts his frontal lobe momentarily to connect with the fate of man. To be simple and innocent. He cannot excel for too long, such a drastic change is impossible as the brain remains firm in its commitment. Only a neurosis could alter the biochemistry. Only a disorder could return man to his animalistic origin. The schizophrenic is lucky. His emotions blunted, numb to the raging horror. To be healthy is to feel yet to feel is accompanied with a latent desire for more. Feeling is gratified by an accompanied benefit. It’s a neurological stimulation to make up for the destitute inevitability. To be alive is to be captivated by the wonder of the universe. By nature’s calling. To feel the penetration of the unknown yet so real to the soul. The intellect marvels while the soul internalises. The mind is frozen momentarily by the sublime. A pause in the gratifying clause. Before the mind regains control and searches for more. The desire for wonder is absent. Wonder comes to the unsought man. To he who is travelling to his destination is hit by a powerful awe.

Humans follow a constructed routine. One that displaces the natural order. To live is to leave Eden. To live by a separate cause. Awakening the frontal lobe and pursuing self indulgence. Other animals do the same. Yet their collectivity is a matter of fate rather than independent thinking. The introspective nature is foreign and development is isolating individuality. To be conscious of these patterns and to be stooped in their routine. Not much else differs between man and animal, only that man despises to be associated with the animal. He has risen above the animal. He has left the jungle for a new civilisation. He acts animal in almost every respect except his intellectual findings. He diagnosis the situation and attempts to electrify and highlight his own natural order. Solidifying his construction of how the world ought to work. He is no longer a robot in a system but a free thinking humanoid. He has broken free of the hallucination. No longer hypnotised by the nature’s puppeteering. He can be free. An ample evolutionary error liberating man into the fear of dread. His pod accidentally opened up and he must remain alone on the spaceship. He entertains new hobbies to pass the time but he can never escape the truth. The reality of his own finitude. He is destined the die on the ship before reaching the destination. He can never return to the pod and is forever a liberated pessimist.

Connections will evidently bring expectations and eventual tragedy. Desire can be nullified in the face of disorder or fervent isolation. Yet such is against the instincts of man. Like every animal he possesses intimacy. Though intimacy doesn’t seem to be a matter of desire insofar as it’s intuitive. The sexualisation is desired but those are various points. To desire a relationship need not merit the nefarious hedonistic agenda. Lurking for endorphins to emit. Asceticism is a desired goal in of itself but it radically differs from celibacy quite the unnatural phenomenon. Abstinence seeks to cut off the animalism for spiritual venturing. The social setting for humans necessitates questioning one’s actions. Benefiting from the actions of enjoying the moment. Focusing and reflecting. The pleasure that is heightened by social interaction. It is not merely a biological urge but a socio-cultural entanglement. The extreme abstinence is not a return to nature but an intellectually reduced individual. To be Tarzan is to live amongst the animals and yet still relate to the war. To not desire the complexity of the stars but to still find instinctual elements necessary. Yet it is his latent capacity to understand that his desire for Jane breeches the biological for socio-cultural. It isn’t about procreation, it is about connection.

Meaninglessness is a recognition of the game. A cultural construct induced by the intellectual prowess. Desire cannot be undone but it can be redefined in its functional paradigm. Everything is a means to an end. Though the uniqueness of human behaviour is to relish in those moments. Comforted by moments of solace laughing and joking with no rat race to partake. The world keeps going but man can stop. He is strong and smart. He can protect himself and endure the struggles of life. Nihilism is a shocking discovery. It need push one into one lane or another. It isn’t all or nothing. It is merely enjoying the ride. It will all be over one day. Might as well enjoy it. Pleasure is a part but not the main part. Connections play a pivotal role as well. Try not to be overzealous or over-invested. Stay calm and immerse carefully and genuinely. It is not to objectify others as inferior or seemingly cogs in the simulation. To some resource everyone is Mr. Anderson potentially even Smith replicants. Though it is Smith’s human-like desire that corrupts his prestige. Recognising the simulation is not all for nought. Yet it lowers the emotional turmoil and concern. It may elaborate a cold stench but such sensitive information credibly makes life an adventure. A virtual reality action packed entertainment. Engage in the simulation and maximise. It will be over soon, may as well toast.
